There has been an overwhelming response to the unknown bird identification which we posted earlier and it turns out that the bird in question is a Juvenile YELLOW BITTERN!
Wow, what a great find. There has been only one confrimed record within Australia and few confirmed sightings throughout Christmas and the Cocos Keeling Islands.
This observation will be submitted to the Birds Australia Rarities Committee (BARC) for future records.
We would like to thank the birding community, and in particular those who provided very insightful thoughts as to the identification of this hard to identify birdy!
